I actually saw this problem once last week, I think.  I built a kernel
from scratch (rm -rf compile/* ...), and it didn't happen again.  I am
having trouble with 'mount' locking my Mac hard (mount_ffs works OK),
though I am currently playing with the scsi driver on that machine, too...
