FWIW, I seem to recall that the SmartUPS/VS (or whatever the
slashification is; one of which I own, actually 8-) uses a simulated
sine wave, i.e. stepped and not a square wave, but but not a true sine
wave either.

I only mention this because "SmartUPS/VS" and "not sine wave" and
"square wave" were mentioned together.  Some/many UPSes do something
that's neither.  8-)
