Yow.  I haven't seen those enormous ping times, but I did manage
to hang the driver pretty badly with a flood ping.  I was doing a
couple transfers and also flooding, and it locked up in the driver
(as seen in DDB).  My apologies for not reproducing it and 
reporting it...
