I finally had some time to play with mysql-3.21.29-gamma on
NetBSD1.2g/i386.  Compile was fine.  Install was fine.  mysql_install_db
seemed fine.

# mysqlshow
mysqlshow: Host is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server
# mysql -u root mysql
ERROR 1130: Host is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server

/etc/hosts does contain:
127.0.0.1               localhost

Everything looks good, but why would it let me connect to the mysql
server?  Client mysql is on the same host as the server.
