Subject: "umount -f" and NFS mounts

So, is there any reason why I can't do a "umount -f" on an NFS mount,
when there are no processes using the mount (according to fstat), if
the entity on the other end of the mount is not responding?
In this case, I've got an amd process that's normally on the other end
of a mount at /cdrom. I kill amd, and then try to "umount -f /cdrom"
so I can restart amd. Shouldn't this work? What am I missing?
