Well, it's likely to be a problem with your hardware and Ultra-DMA.
I forgot to ask in my previous message: could you send me your dmesg
output ?

As the "old code" (it's the same as the one used with pciide, but as
the driver attach to the ISA bus, DMA is not enabled) doesn't use ultra-DMA
the problem will not show up.
