I think I tripped on the same thing, and I tried upgrading my X.
Although the old snapshot X (Dec. 1998) documented protocol "wsmouse"
which implies it works with NetBSD wscons, it doesn't seem to. X from
Jan. 1999 snapshot works fine with my kernels with wscons built in.
