Could it be a loose doggle? Ethernet runts/overruns in the 50-ohm
cable days used to (in my experience) always be associated with lose
cables where some connector had pulled most of the way off of the
cable.
Similarly, I see my Dlink cardbus go on and off-line if the doggle
flexs the cardbus micro-D connector up and down even the smallest
amount. I'm coming to the conclusion that the doggle-cardbus
connectors just isn't that reliable.
