In the bad old days, when computers were measured in cubic metres ;-),
some of my collegues came up with a formula that took number of
platforms, number of workstations, number of printers, etc, as input,
and generated recommended number of sysadmins as output. Every time i
tried it, it gave quite reasonable output, and it was always far from
the real situation. :-)

I'll see if I can dig it out. It's in one of my piles of paper ... :-)
