The "gaim" package exists and works (see pkgsrc/net/gaim).  It does
however require a number of other packages to build/run.  My install
relies on

esound-0.2.15
gettext-0.10.35
glib-1.2.6
gtk+-1.2.6
libaudiofile-0.1.9

Besides, for initial registration it really likes it if you have a
netscape up and running when you start gaim.
