that's what i did.  unpack the tarballs, install perl (makes it easier
and not to "heavy" a replacement process), and then do this:

  # cd /usr/src
  # find . -name Root | xargs perl -i -0777 -pe '$_=":pserver:anoncvs@anoncvs.netbsd.org:/cvsroot\n";'

then cvs update works like a charm.
