Additional information being that on another system that is _also_ building 
the tree it didn't have problems. And on that system I had the patched ld 
running so I'm guessing that once again the build depends on having been 
build in order to build itself. I've replaced ld on the failing system and 
kicked a build of just the egcs stuff to see if it fixes that part of it.

Unrelated note, is there some way to suppress the ritual complaints from 
tools build out of the build that want some later libc revision but getting 
the current libc revision? Since y'all insist on requiring the egcs tools 
from the build to build the build if I build them first and copy them into 
my base environment I end up with a zillion of these complaints.

Build related FYI, but unrelated to the libraries. I've also seen build 
errors in named and dhcp that seem to be of the 'we're in the process of 
merging this' stuff. (I've commented them out to get to a release but 
presumably they'll build soon.)
