I use a Dell Latitude CP, a SanDisk CF PC CARD Adapter, and a 16MB Kodak
Picture Card.  I have not had any problems with lockups.  I pop the card
in to move the files off and then pop it back out.

It seems to be fine.  It might be an issue with your laptop chipset or
the type of CF you are using.
