Then, instead of using -current sources, you can use -release:
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-release/src/libexec/ftpd
My mirror can run tar on the fly (not sure for the master site), you can type:
ftp ftp://ftp2.fr.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-release/src/libexec/ftpd.tar
and have a tar file of sources buildable on 1.4.2 (and even on 1.3.x, I did
it :)
