i just tried to update in the normal way:

   # cd /usr/src
   # cvs update -d -P
   cvs [update aborted]: unrecognized auth response from anoncvs.netbsd.org: 

huh?  then i tried deleting the anoncvs.netbsd.org entry from my
.cvspass file, and cvs login gets me the same response.

everything was last built from sources dated 20000814.
