well, actually, could be _their_ modem-ttydevice-connection, that fails to
signal the remote modem that the other side hung up or got blocked or 
whatever.

Anyway, its not trivial to fix this, as the _data_ packets don't pass
out of the kernel to the pppd; only LCP and IPCP etc. do.
