I don't know how feasable this is, but what I would like to see is an even more 
fine-grained controlling mechanism for this.. for example, it would be nice to 
be able to set buffer preferences for each individial filesystem.

I'm not an expert on this kind of thing, but I think it would help to be able 
to do more caching on something like an htdocs filesystem than the / or /var 
filesystems.
