is it going to be, or should it be removed. as-is it's in a state where
it causes a kernel configured with it to fail to build -- shouldn't the
error be one step up at 'config'?

The last time I tried it (2001/03/24 sources), it wouldn't work at all
with my Exabyte Eliant 820 tape. I think I posted something about it at
the time.... Of course the NCR driver has pretty much stopped working
with that drive too.
