I deinstalled all packages, removed /etc/X11 and /usr/X11R6,
rebuilt everything (src + xsrc) and configured X. Things seem to
work now, i.e. I was able to recover from power saving mode :-)

It's funny though, the same procedure about 1-2 months ago didn't
help anything...
