It's a kernel problem. Would you be able to do some debugging and test
patches? I've been looking for someone being able to reproduce it easily
and in a position to test things.

This problem results from the merge of the pmsi (intelli mouse driver) with
the standard PS/2 mouse driver and some fixes to automgaically reset stuck
mice. This has shown quite a lot of unexpected effects the old driver
(probably accidently) ignored or worked around by pure luck.
