It is not important at all -- not in the least.  In fact things are a
lot better (i.e. easier to manage) if it is not.

You really only want /tmp, /var, and /home to be separate filesystems.

(and the same is true of every one of the many dozens of unix variants
I've ever managed -- though some of them make this asinine assumption
about /usr a little more difficult to work around if you try to use
their upgrade tools, but luckily this is not true of NetBSD nor FreeBSD,
nor any GNU/Linux I know of)
