I find that having my host know its name is constant makes email and logging
much nicer.
the specific IP binding it has on an interface is not the same as its hostname.
there is no 'authoritative' interface if you are mobile between a docking
station, an at-home network router (with NAT) and an 802.11 network, the
physical interface can vary across sleep/wake sequences as well as reboots, and
you do not want to have to vary a file in /etc/... either before sleep, or after
reboot/re-awake.
having /etc/dhclient.conf set with supersede host-name "my.preferred.name"; has
fixed this for me.

No, this is pretty much on topic. I think there are a bunch of lurkers on the
list who like me are at 10+ offsite meetings a year, probably more than one a
month, and the niggles about mobility+netbsd add up.
nailing them down slowly!
