One impact that you've not noted is that NetBSD's list software
used the specific Return-Path to track subscribers who have moved
or otherwise have broken addresses. If enough messages to a
subscriber bounce, they're automatically removed from the list.
This isn't possible unless the subscriber is uniquely identified.
It would presumably be sufficient and perhaps even easy to obfuscate
this, though.
In any case, I think you should be lobbying the NetBSD admins, not
a public mailing list where the vast majority of people can't do
anything about it even if they had the authority to make a decision
for the project.
