It depends on what you are doing. I did a make -j 4 (right after
a boot) of the kernel that runs on my 2.8GHz P4 HT system, one
with a normal uniprocessor kernel and once with a multiprocessor
kernel. Here are the results:
203.7u 20.2s 3:45.57 99.3% 0+0k 226+26077io 62963pf+0w
340.2u 34.5s 3:13.20 193.9% 0+0k 230+26024io 62973pf+0w
A 14% improvement in speed is significant.
