Eh?  I use a script which finally does:

base=`(cd ..;/bin/pwd)`
suffix=<something that depends on the architecture>
destdi$base/dest$suffix
objdir=$base/obj$suffix
releasedir=$base/release

./build.sh -X ../xsrc -N $N -T $tools -u -U -D $dest -O $obj -R $release "$@"
