this happens for me as well, on a ThinkPad X40. once i saw a
"usl_detach timeout" messages so maybe it's related. i haven't looked
into this in detail, yet.
btw. my screen is thrashed after opening a closed lid. switch to
console and back to X fixes it. do you see the same issue, too?
this is probably XFree related.
