On a related note I have submitted a bogus bug report to PHP developers
(and I'm pretty sorry that I didn't read what I reported) that might be
another face of the problem.

After looking a little further I found that the file where the crash =
occur
is iconv-related, but that it wasn't modified since 3 years ago...

The crash is reproducible if you need to test things.
