I've only tried the promise card it with 4.0_RC4,
pretty sure it's enabled in GENERIC:

The comment should probably be updated because it
does seem to run at 300

pdcsata0: Promise PDC40718 SATA300 controller (rev. 0x02)
pdcsata0: interrupting at ioapic0 pin 17 (irq 11)
pdcsata0: bus-master DMA support present

The card's bios is not 100% intuitave, but it does
the job once you figure it out.
