Hi, Forgive me if this not appropriate offer, but should NetBSD include all of "meta-pkgs/modular-xorg-apps" packages as part of NetBSD's native Xorg? For an end user below ones (and dependent ones) are required -at least!... I'm personally using modular Xorg and has instaled following packages from pkgrsc: 1- modular-xorg-server 2- xinit 3- xf86-input-keyboard 4- xf86-input-mouse 5- xf86-video-vesa + xf86-video-nv 6- font-cursor-misc 7- font-misc-misc 8- dejavu-ttf (an optional true type font)* According to these, only above packages and "meta-pkgs/modular-xorg-drivers" seems to be required for native one too. Keeping Xorg in the src tree requires an enormous investment in maintenance. It has already been tried once, with the result of atrophy and obsolescence for XFree86. Now, the old arguments have vanished and we even have a framework for handling third party software. Why repeat history? For fun, I built all of modular xorg: meta-pkgs/modular-xorg-apps meta-pkgs/modular-xorg-drivers meta-pkgs/modular-xorg-fonts meta-pkgs/modular-xorg-libs on a 4.0 system with no packages installed -- I wanted some idea of the effort involved. The total: 207 packages. More importantly, a number of them are not part of xorg per se, most notably perl. If memory serves, the standard perl build environment doesn't permit cross-compilation. I've attached the list of packages... --Steve Bellovin, http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~smb |
