Actually I have to correct myself now:

The panic happens with DEBUG+DIAGNOSTIC kernel
whenever a module gets loaded, either manually or automatically.

The panic and backtrace is always the same.

The boot "fix" came from the fact, that the kernel just had all modules
builtin, so no module got loaded and circumvented the bug.
