Re: /boot causes triple fault in vmware

Hello,

I just built a NetBSD/amd64 release ISO image from recent sources and
was going to install it in a VMware Fusion virtual machine, but as
soon as /boot is started (after the VESA-related text message
appears), the virtual machine crashes. I found this in the logs:

...
Mar 04 13:37:23.536: vcpu-0| Triple fault.
Mar 04 13:37:23.536: vcpu-0| Msg_Hint: msg.monitorEvent.cpl0SS (sent)
Mar 04 13:37:23.536: vcpu-0| *** Virtual machine kernel stack fault
(hardware reset) ***
Mar 04 13:37:23.536: vcpu-0| The virtual machine just suffered a stack
fault in kernel mode. On a real computer, this would amount to a reset
of the processor. It can be caused by an incorrect configurati
on of the virtual machine, a bug in the operating system, or a problem
in the VMware Fusion software. Press OK to reboot virtual machine or
Cancel to shut it down.
Mar 04 13:37:23.536: vcpu-0| ---------------------------------------
Mar 04 13:37:25.083: vcpu-0| CPU reset: hard
...

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Hi Julio,

I haven't had any problems myself with NetBSD/amd64 in VMWare Fusion.
I've booted ISOs with 4.99.67 and 5.0_BETA without issue, and I'm
running a 5.99.7 GENERIC kernel right now.

I tried to duplicate your problem by booting the latest ISO installers
I could find on the NetBSD FTP site (5.0_RC2, and HEAD/200903040000Z),
and I didn't run into this problem.

I'm using VMWare Fusion 2.0.2, and I'm selecting "Other 64-bit OS".
It's running under Tiger 10.4.11. Let me know if there are any other
details that could help you differentiate. Could it be your installer
that's the problem?

Regards,

Dave
