I just thought SMP relates more to ahci. Sorry I have lost
the beginning of this thread...

Great. I just burned 5.0.1 to CD-RW, but my Asus P7P55D refuses
to boot. It gets a "fatal protection fault" right after detecting
cpu0. Very wonderful. Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7 don't have problems
with exactly the same hardware. I have tried to disable everything
possible from BIOS but no go.
