After having zeroed out the entire disks, initializing parity now
runs much faster, and anticipating completion in less than two
hours. Then I can see what the performance looks like with a real load.
Just a final follow-up. After taking everyone's advice, especially
the suggestion of aligning the raidset on a nice boundary, everything
is up and running smoothly, and with expected performance.
