sporadic failure to wakeup from S3

Recently, I am experiencing sporadic failure to wake from ACPI Sleep
state S3.

A check of /var/log/messages only shows that when this happens the
line 

Aug 29 16:28:22 prpad /netbsd: Flushing disk caches: 36 23 done

is missing from the log.

Any ideas what's wrong?
