I thought it was to do with the extended flags, but have forgotten about the 'o' flag  of /bin/ls and chflags. The directory has indeed the schg flag set, but resetting it does not work for some reason:

# ls -lo

# chflags -R noschg .
chflags: ./@test_8921_tmpæ_SRC: Permission denied
