Unfortunately, asking people to volunteer for help is:
(1) not practical in this situation
(2) not likely to get you much help
why do i say that?
(1): How many people out there 'on the net' know 4.4BSD well enough
to actually help out in debugging it, or fixing things, or
even testing it?
A small number.
Now subtract out those who can't be considered 'safe' around
licensed sources (because to have a running 4.4-Lite system that
you could rationally debug, you'd need licensed sources) either
because of a lack of appropriate licensing, or for whatever reason,
those who don't have time, etc., and you have
An even smaller number, many of whom are (jump back!) already
working on 4.4BSD in some form or another.
(2): Maybe i'm getting cynical in my 'old age,' but i've found that,
on the net, many people are quick to offer help, and very few
are quick to give it. It's probably tied in with the fact that
most of those who have the appropriate knowledge are already too
busy using it. 8-)
Aigh, i've ventured off into philosophy! 8-)
