I'm not sure linux's UFS supports ordered write either (it's soo much
simpler to just do asyncronous writes).
It's not a problem in ext2fs per see (NetBSD's ext2fs does ordered writes :)
but a design decision.

I think the problem I had was related to a burst on the power line which
confused the UPS so much he just protected itself. There wasn't a real power
sutdown per see, and another similar UPS on another power circuit didn't
have the problem.

I now have good experience of both, and I've ever got less troubles with NetBSD
than linux.
