In the original official e-mail for the contest, it stated that...

However, stand by the school of thought that a logo should really be
able to stand on its own grounds as a shape, indecent of language
specific text. The logo should be able to be recognizable with no
dependency on text. Examples of this include the Apple logo, the
Windows logo, and the Linux penguin. Standardized, stylized text can
be used as an addition to the logo, but should not be included into the
logo itself.
