If you want my opinion:

Animations work very well to draw attentions. It's very hard to
ignore them.

THIS IS WHY I HATE THEM SO MUCH - I can't read the main part of
the page, because something is "moving" at the edge of my field
of view and draws my attention. 

Should you want to make the first contact to NetBSD an annoying
experience, go ahead.
