Changes to the NetBSD Packages Collection in April 1998

This is a list of the changes made to the NetBSD Packages collection
during the month of April 1998, generated from the doc/pkg-CHANGES
file.  The one-line comment about each of the packages mentioned is
included after the description of the change itself.  For a better
description of each package, please see the

	pkgsrc/*/<package-name>/pkg/DESCR

file itself.


Summary
=======

During April, some far-reaching changes were made to bring the
bsd.pkg.mk, and bsd.pkg.subdir.mk files into the pkgsrc tree, and to use
these files in each package in the collection.  (These files used to be
called bsd.port.mk and bsd.port.subdir.mk) This means that there is no
longer any need to sync the files in /usr/share/mk with your version
of the pkgsrc tree.  We have also added a copy of the bsd.own.mk file
to the pkgsrc tree, so that the pkgsrc tree is self-sufficient in *.mk
files.  There is also no need to set the PORTSDIR variable now, and so
working with multiple pkgsrc trees is much easier.  A new version of the
DEPENDS definition has been implemented, superceding the LIB_DEPENDS
definition, which makes it much easier for NetBSD ELF ports (pmax and
Alpha) to use the pkgsrc collection, since dynamic shared objects are
handled in a different way on those ports.  We have added a number of
packages, including Mozilla, and also updated a large number of packages
to more up-to-date versions.
