Changes to the NetBSD Packages Collection in March 1999
=======================================================

Some very far-reaching changes to the NetBSD Packages Collection
were made in March:

+ support has been added for using pkgsrc on Solaris,
+ deinstallation and cleaning behaviour has been modified so that
pre-requisite packages can be installed or "cleaned" on a package-basis,
+ pre-requisite packages can be shown for an installed package,
+ "just-in-time" invocation of su(1) or similar has been added,
when installing packages and the user is not root.

Notable aditions to the packages collection include:  beroftpd,
controlcenter, docbook and related packages (thanks, Rene), ee and
eterm, fromto, jove, micq, mswordview, ptl2, radius, and zoularis.

Notable updates to packages include:  ddd, enlightenment (thanks,
Tim), fvwm2/xpmroot, glib/gtk, gnome, ImageMagick, lsof, lyx, mutt,
nmh (thanks, Kim), scilab, siag, ucd-snmp, vile/xvile, wu-ftpd,
xscreensaver and xtraceroute.

I must also thank Matthias Scheler for his work in keeping up with
the gnome releases over the last few months - it's certainly not
an easy job, due to the frequency of the releases.  What's more
impressive is that I don't believe that Matthias actually uses
gnome, and he has done this maintenance without complaint.  Well,
maybe just a few here and there.

Changes to the Package Tools and the Collection
===============================================

	bsd.pkg.mk: Allow recursive cleaning/deinstalling of required
		packages: "make clean CLEANDEPENDS=YES", "make
		deinstall DEINSTALLDEPENDS=YES". Both CLEANDEPENDS and
		DEINSTALLDEPENDS default to NO, so this isn't
		different from the current behaviour.  [hubertf
