I have a system with an AH1542B and an 8-bit 3c503. I have completed the
kernal copy and initial floppy installtion. I am trying to install over
ethernet via FTP. My 3c503 does not have a memory jumper for 0xd000 so I
tried to set it up as ed1 (0x250,0xd800). When I run the ifconfig almost
immediately I get a kernel message "ed1 timeout".
I'm not sure what is going on. The autoconfig messages correctly identify
the ethernet card as an 8-bit 3c503. The first possibility that occurs to me
is some problem either with using an 8-bit card or with using only ed1 or
some combination. If somebody could build me a kernel with ed0 memory at
0xd800 I would like to try that.
If push comes to shove I can get the distribution onto tape but that would
take a lot of work and some phone lines. I would appreciate any thoughts
anybody would like to share.
