does it happen when you just do a "make" in /usr/src/share/termcap?
if so, how are you logged in, etc.?

I get the following in an xterm sent from lamp:

/usr/src/share/termcap
394 [sun-lamp] termcap % make > & ! /tmp/yyy
395 [sun-lamp] termcap % cat /tmp/yyy
ex - /usr/src/share/termcap/termcap.src < /usr/src/share/termcap/reorder > /dev/null
cap_mkdb termcap
396 [sun-lamp] termcap %
