Many of manpages for system calls (section 2) contain the above error
message in the list of ERRORs.
Is this an anachronism, or is it only appropriate for certain
filesystem types? I've browsed through the filesystem codes, but
nothing jumped out at me.
If it is filesystem dependent, shouldn't the message be something like:
pathname contains a character that is not valid for filesystem type
