Parallell printer port problems.
When booting my system, the parallell port (lpa0) is only
recognized if the printer is unconnected (from the computer).
If I boot without the printer connected, and then connect the
parallell cable, everything works fine.
First I thought the problem was in my printer port, so I bought
a new one (lpt0), but the result was the same.
The printer I'm using is an OKI OL 400 Laser printer, and the
computer is 486DX "noname", and I am running netBSD 0.9.
I have previosly used DOS WINDOWS COHERENT without problems.
By using the dos program MSD I found these differences between
a connect and disconnect printer
On_Line Paper_Out I/O_Err Time_Out Busy Ack
Disconnected Yes Yes No No Yes No
------------
Connected and
Turned Off No No Yes No No No
Off-Line No No No No Yes No
On Line Yes No No No No No
Do you think the problem has to do with my printer port, or is it
the combination of lp device driver and my printer that cause
this problem.
Is there a way to force him to load the driver?
Except from this problem, the system is runnig great, and
as a poor student I am very thankful to at last be able to
run a real operating system
I would be very greatful for any form of responce.
Thanks
Peter Eneroth
