I've noticed that the 1.0 GENERICAHA kernel only recognizes the 3C509
the first time it comes up - after a reboot, it doesn't find it.
Sigh.   This is in a Compaq ProSigma with an EISA.   The 3C579 seems
to work better - it's an EISA card.
