This problem applies to every kernel I have tried.
>Description:
Using a 3c509 combo card and AUI, my machine sporadically loses
contact with the network, usually during periods of high traffic.
The problem is not easily repeatable; however, when running video
games over the network via X, or doing file transfers via NFS (e.g.
while installing NetBSD), the machine regularly loses contact with
the network.
I can reestablish contact with the network by re-running "ifconfig"
on the interface. This problem does not occur on machines using
BNC (I know of at least two machines using 3c509 cards, one of them
definitely a combo 3c509 card, which have never experienced this
problem). I do not know whether this problem occurs on machines
using UTP.
The output of "/sbin/ifconfig -a" does not change when the machine
falls off of the network; it always reads:
ep0: flags=9863<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,LINK0,MULTICAST>
inet 18.248.0.54 netmask 0xffff0000 broadcast 18.248.255.255
lo0: flags=8009<UP,LOOPBACK,MULTICAST>
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000
sl0: flags=c010<POINTOPOINT,LINK2,MULTICAST>
>How-To-Repeat:
Perform high-traffic network activities using the AUI interface of
a 3c509 card.
>Fix:
I do not have a fix, but am willing to run debugging code to help
find the problem if you don't have an equivalent setup or cannot
reproduce the problem.
