When I say "fsck /dev/dsk/foo" on the HP-UX systems here, the filesystem 
gets checked.  HP-UX has a clean flag, too.  I consider this behavior 
intuitive, and requiring an option to get this behavior seems like 
overkill to me.

Can't we instead put effort into making sure the clean flag reflects the 
actual state of the filesystem?  I realize that there's not a simple, cut 
and dried resolution, but it seems to be the Right Thing to do.  Making 
the programmers do work so the rest of the world doesn't have to is a 
desirable goal, in my mind (I come from the programmer's standpoint). :-)
