System: NetBSD phop3.physik.uni-bonn.de 1.1 NetBSD 1.1 (PHOP4) #0: Wed Mar 6 19:37:00 MET 1996 helbing@phop4.physik.uni-bonn.de:/phop5/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/PHOP4 i386
>Description:
Every once in a while (i.e. no systematics has been found) I get the
following error message in /var/log/message when writing to
Exabyte:
Mar 27 02:09:19 phop5 /netbsd: st0(ahc0:4:0): DELAYED ERROR, key = 0x4
Mar 27 02:09:19 phop5 /netbsd: st0(ahc0:4:0): non-media hardware failure, info = 65536 (decimal), data = 00 00 00 4b 08 02 00 00 00 05 8d 00 00 00 00 3b c7 c1 01 00 a5
Mar 27 02:09:19 phop5 /netbsd: st0(ahc0:4:0): non-media hardware failure, data = 00 00 00 4b 08 02 00 00 00 05 8d 00 00 00 00 3b c7 c1 01 00 a5
Then the Exabyte is hung. If I try any mt-operations after that all I
get is I/O error. If I request the tape drive by hand (pressing the
eject button on the front) to release the tape it does after some
tries. If I then reinsert a tape without booting the system and try
to read it or to write to it, again after a while (:-)) the system
hangs without any hint or error message.
>How-To-Repeat:
I tried it with several Exabytes 8500. They all show this.
>Fix:
Badly needed.
