This is causing the same problem under NetBSD and OpenBSD (using OpenBSD
kernel and NetBSD 1.1 userland programs), architecture i386.

I can't use a null-modem serial terminal.  I'm getting a constantly held
high TxD line from the serial port, causing $FF characters to be displayed
on the terminal.  This happens no matter which com-port I use (I have all of
com0 through com3 with proper interrupts 4/3/5/2[9]).  This terminal works
with NetBSD/Amiga, and what's more, a null modem [C]SLIP connection on any
of the four ports between the i386 machine and any of the NetBSD/Amiga's
ports (internal, MFC3) at 57.6kbps works great! 

I feel like the i386 machine is haunted.  Any guesses?  It doesn't start
holding the line high until after *BSD is booted and the *getty is running*,
and even with a custom breakout box setup passing only 1->1 (shield ground),
7->7 (ground), and 2->3 (transmit to terminal's receive), this still
happens. Oy!

Yes, I have 'local' and 'softcar' set, and I'm using 'std.9600' in
/etc/ttys.
